The two models released as part of this exercise during the phasing out of the 929 were the Xedos 9, and the Eunos 800, released in Europe and Japan respectively. While the 929 was a back wheel drive, the Xedos 9 was a front-wheel drive providing direct competition to the Nissan Maxima, while the Japanese models were 4-wheel drives and were said to drive as well as the BMW 850i. Automatic models were 4-speed and manual models were 5-speed.
Unlike other sedans released in the decade between 1993 and 2003, the Millenia had a sleek, aerodynamic design and came in elegant, chic colors. In celebration of the millennium, the Mazda millenia came out with a special edition model, which came in two extremely trendy and classy colors, 17 inch wheels and a six cd changer.
2001 and 2002 saw the models with augmented body structures, and features added for better control and handling. Be warned though, spare parts for this model are on the expensive side.
