Vacations And Using Your Credit Card

by Nick Makaryk
Many Americans go away on vacation every year and have the best of times with friends and family enjoying themselves to the full and chilling out in relaxed surroundings. The majority of vacations are taken between April and September each year and during this time, the tourist industry relies on the millions of dollars generated in this way whether the vacations are taken at home or abroad. Holidaymakers never seem to realize just how much money they have spent until they return from their vacation and tally up the cost involved.

The use of cash and checks on vacation has more or less become archaic in recent times. It is so much simpler to use your credit card for car rental payments or for settling the account at your hotel. In fact, many of the car rental companies and hotel groups insist on taking the details of your card as a security measure, and you will find yourself presented with a real problem if you do not have one or choose not to use it. You may have decided to only use your credit card for larger purchases but in order to make a reservation in a five star hotel you will most certainly be asked to provide a credit card, at least until you pay your bill upon checking out.

Of course, using a credit card offers you, the consumer, protection. It details what you have bought, and where and when you made the purchase and some statements even show the exact time the card was used. You do not have to have the original receipt for your goods as your credit card statement acts as proof of what you have bought and can be viewed at a time suitable to you, either on line or in the form of a paper version.

Another advantage to using a credit card is that you do not have to carry large amounts of cash with you. It is not recommended that you do this because of the threat of violence if a fat wallet is noticed. It may only require a signature and an ID. It is much easier than counting cash every time you want to make a purchase or take your family to local attractions.

As an incentive, quite a few of the credit card companies entice you with a cash back reward when you use your credit card. You will be refunded a percentage of the money spent on your purchases, usually on a monthly basis.

There are many companies that award points for every dollar you spend throughout the month. These points can be redeemed at local merchants for a plethora of different items. It is not necessary to redeem your points every month, you can save them and let them add up to purchase that big item that you want.

There are many people who do not have a credit card but this does not mean that they are unable to take vacations or stay in top quality hotels. It could be that they use a card which is rechargeable. Funds are placed on the card available for spending but an amount greater than the funds allocated cannot be exceeded.

They are easy to obtain as well, providing you have good credit. If you don't have a credit card, you should look into getting one before you take your next vacation. All you need to do is look for your favorite company online and apply through their website - you'll normally receive a response in a matter of minutes.
